What is integrative nutrition?
When most people think about wellness or how to be healthy, the first thought that comes to mind is diet and excercise. After all, what we put into our bodies (food) and how we use our bodies (exercise) does play a massive role in how our bodies feel and function.
However, integrative nutrition teaches that there is more to “health” than the food we put into our bodies. Changing your diet and increasing your exercise is a part of improving your health, but it may not be enough to help you thrive and reach your goals if other areas of your life are way out of balance.
Let’s take an example. You can eat kale, drink healthy smoothies, give up carbohydrates, AND go the gym every single day, but if you’re unhappy with your relationships, or stuck in a job that you hate, or stressed beyond belief, the healthy foods and gym sessions are just not going to make you feel truly healthy and happy.
To break it down, in integrative nutrition, the approach to health is more than what you eat and how you eat (and exercise), it is an interplay between food and lifestyle changes that provide nourishment and happiness.
The Institute for Integrative Nutrition calls these lifestyle changes Primary Food. Some examples of primary foods are:
- Regular physical movement
- Meaningful positive relationships
- Fulfilling work and hobbies
- Playfulness, creativity and fun
What is a health coach?

Let’s start with the basics. A Health Coach is a supportive mentor, wellnes authority, and partner who helps people feel their best (also known as HEALTHY!) through food and lifestyle changes focused on meeting your unique needs and health goals. Health Coaches don’t believe in one way of dieting and exercising, or one way of living your life, they focus on individuality.
We are all individuals, unique and special in our own ways, living lives with different experiences, both good and bad. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to health and wellness that could ever take into account the life experiences that make us all individuals. By getting to know you through private coaching sessions, we can help you discover how to fuel your body, to live a healthy lifestyle, and to become the healthiest, happiest version of you.
