Is Postpartum Doula Care the right choice for your family?

I serve new and growing families with skilled and nurturing postpartum doula care in their first days, weeks and months postpartum in Dover, Portsmouth, and Berwick. My role as your postpartum doula is to help your family adjust to bringing home your new baby, allowing you to ease into parenthood! It is a privilege to support you during this exciting and nervous time for your new family.

My job as a postpartum doula is to help Mom adjust to being a Mom in Body, Mind and Spirit in the first three months after birth (the Fourth trimester). Services include light housework and tidying up, simple meal preparations, running errands, guidance with newborn care, breastfeeding and/or bottle-feeding support.

As a postpartum doula I provide non-medical support and offer evidence based information on issues during the postpartum period. I assist with meeting mom’s needs so she can focus on baby. Many changes happen with the birth of a baby and postpartum doula care can help families adjust to those changes by nurturing and offering non-judgmental support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I work with Dad/partner as a postpartum doula?

I provide emotional support for Dad and answer questions about what his partner and baby are going through. Help him understand baby’s needs and how baby needs lots of Moms attention but don’t feel left out because there is plenty they need from Dad too!

Postpartum Doula Care for Siblings

We can’t forget about siblings. Bringing a new baby into the house can cause an older sibling to feel left out. I can give the big brother/sister one on one time by playing or reading to them and help them feel included with new baby. There is nothing better than an older sibling help change a diaper or snuggle up next to Mom while she is feeding baby. They need to connect with baby too! Older siblings need one on one time with Mom too. I can take care of baby while Mom and child go for a walk or read a book.

Postpartum Pet Care

I understand pets are part of the family too. Pets need attention and exercise so they feel loved. I enjoy when the first greeting I get when arriving to a house is by the family dog. We can get to know each other by saying hello with lots of petting and belly rubs. I need to feel comfortable with your pets and they need to like me. They are already trying to figure out who this new bundle that was brought home is, so I can help alleviate any more anxiety they may have when I show up at the door.

Grandparents

Grandparents can be a wonderful and are an important part of a new baby’s life. I can help set boundaries when it comes to visiting time and acknowledge their feelings and answer questions. Grandparents need to feel needed and there are lots of tasks they can do. I can offer evidence based information on breastfeeding,co-sleeping and many other topics. My goal is to help them understand other peoples perspectives and adjust to new information. I can take family photos and start an album of memories. Remember, I work for Mom and her family.

postpartum doula care“Tegan provides emotional support when needed. After the birth of my son, I was afraid to leave the house with him. Tegan helped me conquer my fear.  To begin with, we took a field trip to the mall. She helped me prepare the car seat, feel comfortable nursing publicly, and gave me some great tips for keeping my son happy as we shopped.  My experience with her empowered me to go on small outings with him by myself.

Soon afterwards, Tegan accompanied my family and I on a trip to Puerto Rico.  On that trip, Tegan taught me so many skills that made traveling with my son fun and easy. She showed me how to change his diaper on my lap, how to wear him in a water carrier in the pool, and how to keep him calm and content at restaurants.  I now feel confident traveling with my son on my own.”
