Why become a certified postpartum doula? My story.
My name is Tegan Goodridge and along with my role as a Certified Postpartum Doula I am the mother of 4 children, Kayla(17), Emma(15), Jameson(13), and Molly(10). I am also the wife of Dennis who I have been married to for 18 wonderful years! I am much more than a mother and wife, I am a loyal friend, a daughter to two wonderful parents, a sister to 3 brothers, 4 brother-in-laws and 8 sister-in-laws. I am an Auntie to 30 nieces and nephews and that number keeps growing!
I love my role as caregiver to my family and am happy share it with your family as well!
Even as a child…
As a child I always knew I wanted to grow up and be a Mommy. That was all I can remember wanting to be. I would take care of my younger brother for my Mom when she needed or sometimes when she did not need me too! I loved to look after my neighbors children and be a mothers helper, and when I was old enough, I babysat. I babysat, babysat and babysat some more! I worked in day cares and at summer camps. I provided at home daycare for my friends children and worked in a Kindergarten classroom for 4 years. Every job I have ever had was with children.
Becoming a certified postpartum doula
I decided over a year ago to pursue and study to become a doula.
I never realized that there was a job for what I had been doing for so many years with my friends when they brought home a new baby. I was doing what came naturally to me – lending a hand to a new Mom, using my experience with having and breastfeeding 4 children of my own and most importantly, mothering the mother.
In other words, I have been a doula for far longer than I have been certified for. I have been taking care of Moms, babies and families for as long as I can remember and I look forward to continuing with you.
“Tegan knows how to make a baby feel happy and secure. Upon meeting Tegan, my little man immediately adored her. The first time she picked him up, he smiled at her and started making happy cooing noises, which brought me great comfort. I know when I go out; Tegan goes above and beyond to make my baby happy. She engages my son in the same activities that I do, including wearing him on walks around town and rubbing his little back when it’s time to rest.”
